The Catholic Church has always been in controversy throughout history. The Vatican caused more than fair scandals and continued to do in the modern era too. Here are six following offenses that the Vatican has done in the last decade or so, which shows the church in very bad light.
Catholic Church Sells Pornography
Vatican bought Weltbild, one of the largest booksellers in Germany. In 2011 the Catholic Church claimed to be shocked to find out Weltbild’s massive list of titles of erotic books. Many of the books were titled such as ‘Call Me Slut!’ ‘Slut Boarding School’ and ‘Lawyer’s Whore.’ Representatives from the bookseller and the church said that it was a filtering system failure and they will be looking into stopping the distribution of possibly pornographic material. Many other publishers claimed that the church already knew about the books for years.
Ratzinger’s Choir
In 2010 allegations of child abuse was surfaced against in the Regensburger domspatzen which is the most famous Catholic school in Germany. The school was run by the older brother of Pope Benedict XVI, Georg Ratzinger. According to the reports, over 550 pupils were physically and sexually abused by their teachers. Ratzinger.
John Geoghan’s Conviction And Murder
In 2003 when many Roman Catholic priests were found guilty of abusing children, one of the main targets was John Geoghan, who was accused of abusing over 130 boys over 30 years period. He was given a light sentence for groping a 10-year-old boy but eventually, he was murdered in prison by another convict named Joseph Druce.
Killing The Flock
Father Alabi was recently sentenced to 27 years in prison for killing Guerra Piscaglia, a 50-year-old devout attendee of Alabi’s church in the village of Ca Raffaello. A large number of calls and texts exchanged between the two led the investigation of police. There might be a relationship between the two. Alabi’s computer search revealed photos of nuns in sexual poses which he later on said were sent voluntarily.
Charity Funds Used For Personal Renovations
Australian Cardinal George Pell became the highest-ranking member of the Catholic Church to be charged with multiple offenses of sexual assault. Though the Australian government didn’t make the charges against Pell public but they mentioned that complaints were coming from many places. Victoria authorities came to Australia to question several allegations but the church in end was more interested in protecting the abuser than the victims.
