Thursday, September 22nd 2016, well, it doesn’t seem like a significant date right! Well on that day exactly 22 years ago a little show by the name of Friends came out.
Throughout its 10 year run, the show has touched the hearts of many; filled entire households with laughter and left us all wanting to tune in the following week for more. However, where the show is huge and as impactful as this one, there is bound to be a vast ocean of unknown facts right!
In the early 90s, the creators of Friends, David Crane and Marta Kauffman wrote a seven page pitch for Insomnia cafe in addition to the different title. The plot itself was quite different from what we know. His friends, for example Ross and Rachel weren’t the key relationship, instead Joey and Monica were supposed to be love interests after NBC bought the pilot the title became Friends Like Us and by the time they had shot it title had switched once again to Six of One, when the show finally premiered they had simply landed on
All of the six main characters have kissed each other at one point if you include alternative what-if episodes except Monica and Phoebe.
James Michael Tyler aka Gunther, really did work as a barista when he was cast. He was initially cast as an extra in what was then a nameless role. He kept up his day job for the first show’s first four seasons but once Gunther was more established and they would have him on all week he thought “Okay ,I don’t really have time for this”.
In 1997, the friends gang banded together to negotiate a salary increase to $100,000 per episode. It was the first time in TV history that cast members had done this.
In the pilot, Monica forgets the name of a guy she slept with. The Producers were worried that this would make the audience not like her so they handed out a survey to the studio audience asking whether they should change the plot. It turned out that they didn’t mind at all.
In the opening credits of the One after Vegas which is dedicated to Courtney Cox and David Arquette marriage, every cast member has a surname Arquette added to the end of his or her real name.
Bruce Willis appeared in the show for free after losing a bet with Matthew Perry about whether the whole nine yards would be number one in the Box office on its Opening Weekend He donated his feet to charity.
